Are Christians who reject the age of the earth given to us by radiometric dating also rejecting atomic theory?
The theory that we use to make nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons is the same theory that we use to determine the age of the earth by measuring the decay rate of radioactive minerals found in the earths crust, right? You know, if we’ve got this theory wrong then our reactors and weapons wouldn’t work but they do work which can only mean that we’ve got this theory right, right? So that means the age of the earth given to us by radiometric dating can’t be wrong and if someone rejects it, they might as well be rejecting gravity, right?
No, because radio-carbon dating is not a true test of dating. To begin with you would need to know the amount of carbon-14 at the time of the animals death. Something as simple as rain water would effect the radiometric contents in a fossil. The rain would wash some of the radiocarbon molecules out of the fossil giving it a much older age.
For radiocarbon dating to be accurate the item being tested would have to been sealed inside a closed loop system. Pure science for the answer that can’t be refuted by atheist.
