Votive Gift Set – Hinoke Temple, Asian Pear Persimmon and Cassis Nectar by BURN $40 Votive Gift Set – Hinoke Temple, Asian Pear Persimmon and Cassis Nectar by BURN Borne of an obsession to recreate in a candle fragrance the subtle and quiet scent of Japanese incense which is a connoisseur’s tradition dating back thousands of years wherein only the finest sources of sandalwood and aloeswood resins are used. Here we have added black tea, moss and a hint of smoke to evoke the experience. Asian Pear Persimmon Pairing a pure, crisp freshness with delicate sweetness- Asian Pear Persimmon is a sophisticated fusion of summer and autumn fruits and flowers blending its namesakes with accords of Fuji Apple, Wild Plum, Green Fig, Sakura Blossom and Hibiscus in a base of Star Thistle Honey. Cassis Nectar An extremely fruity cocktail that starts off with cassis and layers in a host of other berries like black cherry and red currant all of which are grounded in a base of tonka and musk with just a hint of nectarine. Bellydance Superstars [Ark 21] $11.14 The first thing to do with this is ignore the title. Whether the belly dancers who picked these tracks are superstars or not is unknown — but they have good taste in Middle Eastern music. There are four cuts from the Mondo Melodia stable (by Oojami, with the band’s four-on-the-floor Turkish club mix, and three sha’bi selections from Hakim — all good songs), but the rest spreads its wings much wider. Of greatest interest are three wonderful tracks by the legendary Mohamed Abdul Wahab, whose compositions helped bring Egyptian classical music into modern times, utilizing such contemporary instruments as electric guitar — which features as a rhythm instrument on “Nebtidi Mnain El Hikaya.” The guitar is also a mainstay on Shereen’s “Ah Ya Leil,” with a wah-wah lick underpinning the song à la “Shaft.” With wonderful stuff from Warda, two excellent cuts by Dinletir (“Raks Africa” makes a powerful opening to the disc), and “Il Alem Allah” from Egyptian superstar Amr Diab, things move well. Two cuts of pure percussion make sure everything percolates, before the collection ends with the classic anthem “Habibi Ya Albi,” in a version by Ihab Tawfik. It might be designed for dancing, but it’s also a more than satisfying listening experience — hip swaying optional. ~ Chris Nickson, Rovi |

Superstars #1 Hits Remixed $15.18 Superstars #1 Hits Remixed contains club-oriented mixes of Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” Angie Stone’s “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay,” Kelis’ “Milkshake,” Duran Duran’s “(Reach Up for The) Sunrise,” Maroon 5′s “This Love,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” and roughly a dozen others, most of which made a decent-sized dent in the Billboard dance chart during the early 2000s. Unlike a lot of remix compilations that are cheaply thrown together and filled with no-name remixers, this one includes work from a number of big names: Jason Nevins, Scumfrog, David Morales, Hex Hector, JXL, Junior Vasquez. This is a convenient way to pick up versions you hear in clubs; it would take a lot of effort and money to track them down individually, whether on CD single or 12″ vinyl. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi Performers: Eric Kupper – Keyboards; Peter Rauhofer – Keyboards; Vincent Nigro – Guitar |
